The Evolution from Dynamics CRM to Dynamics 365 for Sales
At Western Computer, we commonly get asked about the difference between Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Dynamics 365 for Sales. Are they the same solution? If so, why did the name change?
Microsoft Dynamics CRM was rebranded as Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales as part of Microsoft’s shift towards unifying their business solutions under the Dynamics 365 umbrella. Additionally, Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales includes some major upgrades and cutting-edge features that improve the software while empowering businesses to manage their own solutions.
Integrations and Upgrades
The current and upcoming enhancements for Dynamics 365 for Sales reflect Microsoft’s ongoing focus on integrating its entire business software stack and transitioning to an app-based solutions model that provides specific functionality for each user.
D365 for Sales has all of the basic functionality of Dynamics CRM, but it’s been updated for a better user interface and contains a variety of new features to help your sales team thrive. As a focus for these improvements, Microsoft has been making developments based on common requests from customers and investing in emerging technologies such as AI and more customizable user interfaces.
5 Key Enhancements for Dynamics 365 for Sales
1. Unified Interface
The new Unified Interface is a major enhancement that shifts the Dynamics 365 interface to a streamlined, app-based model for users. Instead of the classic CRM interface of logging in and hitting directives of where to navigate to, the unified interface can easily be tailored to the role of each individual or to the organization. This access can also be based on security roles provisioned within system.
The new unified interface is more interactive, more intuitive, and more mobile-friendly. In addition to making all sales functionality easier to access, the interface allows for quick onboarding, better training, higher user adoption, and greater self-sufficiency.
2. Advanced Find – “NOT IN” query
Advanced Find now has the option to build a ‘NOT IN’ query. For example, users can query for all cases that do not have a related task. This allows users to search and determine whether follow-up tasks have not been created.
3. Multi-Select Option Set
With this out-of-the-box functionality, customizers can now add multi-select pick lists to different types of forms and grids. It’s possible to specify multiple values (up to 150!) for the field that users can select.
4. Relevance search
You can use the new global search user interface to search, view, and access all online Dynamics 365 records. The intuitive search will prompt you to end queries based on items that contain relevant terminology.
5. Outlook App
The embedded CRM and sales functionality available for Outlook is now app-based, so nothing needs to be installed in your computer. Users can stay within Outlook and access their CRM functionality to create any record from within Outlook.
